Retail tech startup Dukaan laid off 56 employees, or roughly 30% of its workforce, earlier this week. This was the startup’s second round of layoffs in six months, led by Suumit Shah.
According to the sources, the most recent layoffs affected the inside sales team and account managers, who were offered a two-month salary as a severance package.
According to the sources, Dukaan, which previously assisted small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) in establishing an online presence, has shifted its focus to assisting D2C brands in scaling up, which is why the layoffs occurred. Shah, the founder of Dukaan, confirmed the latest layoffs. Dukaan fired approximately 23 employees in September of last year for the same reason.
Dukaan is a no-code platform that previously assisted merchants and SMBs in quickly launching their ecommerce website. The startup later shifted its focus to assisting D2C brands in scaling up.
Many customers of Shopify India, Dukaan’s main competitor, have already switched or are considering switching. Some notable D2C brands that have moved to Dukaan include 10Club, Truke, Vu Televisions, HealthXP, and Uppercase.
