OpenAI may dominate the consumer chatbot market with ChatGPT, but among developers, Anthropic’s Claude models, via its Claude Code agent, have become the tool of choice.

More broadly, the two companies are moving in near lockstep, trading features and model releases. And so after Anthropic unveiled Opus 4.7 last week, it was only a matter of time before its rival followed suit. On Thursday, OpenAI introduced GPT-5.5 and GPT-5.5 Pro, its latest general-purpose models with improvements in coding and more complex tasks.
