2027 Ram 1500 REV: A First Look At The Production-Ready Extended Range Truck

The range-extended version of the Ram 1500 electric pickup is real, despite it being unveiled back in 2023 and seemingly continually delayed. Initially called the Ram 1500 Ramcharger, the now-renamed Ram 1500 REV made a surprise–albeit low-key–appearance at this year’s Detroit Auto Show.
It’s the first public appearance of a production-ready unit of the extended-range truck, and it comes with yet another small delay as an asterisk. As uncovered by MoparInsiders, the American-made model is now expected to go into production at Stellantis’ Sterling Heights Assembly Plant in Michigan in the second half of the year as a 2027 model. Previously, the Ram 1500 REV was expected to roll off the assembly line in the first half of the year as a 2026 model.
That’s three years after the original truck debuted, but it still means Ram will be the first American automaker to sell an extended-range pickup in the United States. Despite the multiple delays, the Ram 1500 REV will arrive at dealerships before Scout’s gas-assisted models, which are scheduled to go on sale next year.
This type of powertrain, which combines an electric chassis with a gas engine that acts as a generator, is expected to attract more buyers than traditional EVs simply because there’s a gas tank involved, and drivers can just fill up and forget about range and charger anxiety. Stellantis touts a maximum range of 690 miles on a full charge and a full tank of gas, but it’s worth remembering that the Ram 1500 REV is essentially an EV that just happens to have an onboard gas generator. In EV mode, the battery provides an estimated 145 miles of range.
The truck is powered by a hefty 92-kilowatt-hour battery nestled between the chassis rails. It doesn’t protrude into the interior, leaving the floor completely flat, and it sends power to a pair of electric drive modules–a 250 kW unit at the front and a 248 kW unit at the rear. Combined, the extended-range Ram 1500 puts down 647 horsepower and 610 pound-feet of torque.
The 2027 Ram 1500 REV has a CCS1 charging port, and not a Tesla-style NACS port.

Because it’s an EV at heart, it has a CCS1 charging port on the front left that can take in up to 145 kW of power from a DC fast charger, adding up to 50 miles of electric range in 10 minutes. However, if there are no chargers around, the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine kicks in and spins a 130 kW generator to send power to the battery and keep moving, but there’s no mechanical connection between the engine and the wheels.
The REV version of the popular full-size truck is set apart from its gas-powered siblings by an illuminated front grille, a bespoke front bumper and a bunch of REV badges scattered throughout the exterior and interior. There’s also a charging port door, and the wheels are secured with eight lugs instead of the six-lug setup found on the traditional pickup.
The 2027 Ram 1500 REV will be offered exclusively as a four-door Crew Cab with a 5-foot, 7-inch bed. With a Class 5 hitch, Ram is targeting best-in-class towing of up to 14,000 pounds, while the maximum payload is expected to be 2,625 pounds.
The range-extended Ram 1500 will be offered in multiple trim levels, but pricing has not been announced yet.
