Facial recognition systems for passenger verification were rolled out at Delhi and Bengaluru airports on the heels of Independence Day celebrations on Monday (August 15).

Authorities have launched a beta version of the DigiYatra, which will now be used for domestic passengers at Delhi airport’s T3 terminal, which is served by AirAsia India, Air India, IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Vistara. The service, on the other hand, has been rolled out for domestic flyers at Bengaluru airport by two airlines, AirAsia India and Vistara. Passenger entry and verification will be automated at all touchpoints, including airport entry, security check, and boarding gate. The app will use facial features to establish a traveller’s identity, which will then be linked to the app, based on the use of single token face biometrics.
