Warner Bros. Discovery puts hold on launch of HBO Max in India
Warner Bros. Discovery halted the planned launch of its streaming service HBO Max in India due to global cost-cutting measures. In addition, the global entertainment conglomerate is working on a merger of its two streaming services, Discovery+ and HBO Max, in existing markets.
According to an Economic Times report, there is currently no word on when the service will be launched in India. As a result, Saugata Mukherjee, India content head, HBO Max, who joined the organisation last year, has also left. The content team began working on a few projects because the initial plan was to launch the service in India within 1-2 years. The only information available to the team at this time is that it will not launch until at least the end of 2024, according to the report, which cited a senior official.
