Elon Musk’s X tells Karnataka HC ‘every Tom, Dick and Harry officer’ is issuing takedown orders

Elon Musk-owned X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, July 1, urged the Karnataka High Court to shield the platform from takedown orders issued by “every Tom, Dick, and Harry officer,” arguing that such directives are arbitrary and lack proper oversight.

The plea by X Corp challenges content blocking orders issued by the Indian government under Section 79 of the Information Technology Act, contending that the takedowns bypass due process and threaten freedom of speech online. The Karnataka High Court has agreed to hear the matter.
