‘Impossible to count the cost’: Publishers warn of damage from AI scraping

Unwanted AI scraping of publisher websites is imposing a significant financial and operational burden on publishers, according to Chris Dicker, chief executive of Candr Media Group and board member of the Independent Publishers Alliance.

Speaking to Press Gazette, Dicker revealed that Candr-owned Trusted Reviews was taken offline multiple times on 16 August after being scraped 1.6 million times in a single day, up from 1.2 million the day before. By comparison, the average daily scraping level usually ranges between 70,000 and 100,000.
