GenAI makes cyber fraud look more credible

As India is in the peak of its biggest shopping season, cybercriminals are using artificial intelligence to not only attack systems but also to scam people. Nearly one in three Indians has been a victim of festive-season scams, with 37% of them losing money, according to a latest McAfee report.

From deepfake celebrity endorsements and fraudulent ‘gift card wins’ to automated refunds and one-time password (OTP) scams, the findings show how generative AI has made fraud faster, cheaper and looking more credible.
