AI ‘drives’ to F1: How automobile governing body plans to use the technology in racing

Formula One racing’s governing body, FIA, is trialling Computer Vision technology at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to tackle track limits breaches. The technology uses shape analysis to identify genuine breaches where drivers cross the white line at the edge of the track. By using Computer Vision, FIA aims to reduce the workload of its remote operations centre, speed up response time, and send fewer breaches to race control for action.
