Google Play Store will be forced to house other app stores by next week as India upholds ruling

Last year, India fined Google for its control over the Android platform. The country’s Supreme Court has now upheld the decision and the demands that accompany it, potentially forcing the Play Store to allow third-party app stores as early as next week.

According to Reuters, the Supreme Court of India denied Google’s request to block a set of demands from the Competition Commission of India this week. The demands were made in addition to the fine imposed last year. Google claimed that they would “hurt consumers” and “stymie the growth” of the Android platform.
