The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) fined Amazon INR 1 lakh for allowing the sale of sub-par pressure cookers on its platform.

The penalty was imposed for violating the QCO (Domestic Pressure Cooker (Quality Control) Order 2020) and consumer rights. “The company (Amazon) was also directed to pay a penalty of INR 1,000,000 for allowing the sale of pressure cookers on its platform in violation of the QCO and violating consumer rights,” the CCPA said in an order. The CCPA stated that after reviewing Amazon’s response, it discovered that the ecommerce platform sold 2,265 sub-standard pressure cookers for INR 6.14 Lakh.
