New Gmail phishing attack uses Google’s garb: How to avoid it

A new phishing scam on Gmail is using loopholes in Google’s defence to convince users of its legitimacy and steal their login credentials. Since the scam came to light, Google has acknowledged the security lapse and is rolling out protections to remedy them.

The phishing attack was flagged by developer Nick Johnson on X. The post showed an email fashioned after support mails from Google to alert Johnson that his account content has been furnished to law enforcement agencies in response to a subpoena served to Google LLC. The mail stated that case…
