OpenAI has appointed Indian-origin executive Vijaye Raji as the chief technology officer (CTO) of applications after the ChatGPT maker acquired his company, Statsig, in a deal worth $1.1 billion.
This is a significant top-deck change to boost OpenAI’s product development and engineering capability, especially for its consumer-facing applications such as ChatGPT and Codex. The move comes a few months after OpenAI acquired former iPhone designer Jony Ive’s startup, io Products, in a $6.5 billion deal to help develop AI hardware.
