Minister of State (MoS) for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh announced 75 ‘Amrit’ grants for collaborative biotech initiatives involving startups, industry, academia and research bodies.
75 inter-disciplinary, multi-institutional grants would be supported for high-risk, ambitious research ideas, milestone-driven collaborative research in all domain-specific areas of the biotech sector,” Singh explained. The minister went on to say that startups, along with other stakeholders, will be able to form teams in a public-private partnership (PPP) mode and receive grants of INR 10-15 Cr over a two to three-year period for high-quality research. The grants will be available for research in areas such as health, agribiotech, climate change, synthetic biology, and sustainable bioresource management, with the goal of addressing “national priorities to propel India as a global leader” in biotechnology.
