The government’s Make-In-India initiative received a significant boost as 38 applications, including 25 from domestic companies, were submitted for the PLI Scheme 2.0 focused on IT hardware, according to official sources. This initiative aims to promote local manufacturing and reduce import dependence.

Global Players Show Interest

Major global PC manufacturers seized the opportunity as Dell, Hewlett Packard, Foxconn (through a subsidiary), Asus, Acer, and Flex submitted their applications before the Wednesday deadline. This active participation by international companies highlights the potential of the Indian market and the appeal of the PLI scheme.

Apple and Samsung Not Part of the Scheme

Notably absent from the list of applicants were tech giants Apple and Samsung. The application window for the scheme closed on Wednesday night, leaving these industry leaders outside the current initiative’s scope.

Prominent Local Players Step Up

Several prominent domestic companies displayed their interest in the scheme. Dixon Technologies (India), VVDN Technologies, Optiemus Infracom, and Sahasra Electronic Solutions were among the local applicants, indicating a strong drive to contribute to India’s domestic manufacturing goals.

The Union Minister for Communications and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, emphasized that the PLI scheme targets a notable boost in production worth INR 3.35 Tn over the next six years. Thus, aimed at promoting self-reliance and enhancing the nation’s security measures.
