Delhi government bans bike taxi services in National Capital

The transport department has banned commercial bike taxi services from operating on Delhi’s roads, dealing a significant blow to the city’s bike taxi operators.

Carrying passengers for hire or reward will be considered a violation of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and aggregators will face a Rs 1 lakh fine. A first offence could result in a Rs 5,000 fine, while a second offence could result in a Rs 10,000 fine and up to a year in prison, according to a public notice from the department. Under the circumstances, the driver will also lose their licence for three months.
