A Bill introduced by California state senator Steve Padilla seeks to ban the manufacture and sale of toys with artificial intelligence chatbot capabilities for children under 18, according to a media release from his office on January 2.
The proposed legislation calls for a four-year ban to protect children from what the Bill describes as potentially “dangerous AI interactions”.
Padilla said safety regulations governing artificial intelligence remain at an early stage and must keep pace with the technology’s rapid evolution.
