OpenAI has fixed the excessive affinity of its popular chatbot, ChatGPT, for em dashes, chief executive Sam Altman said in a recent social media post.

Used to emphasise information in a sentence or mark and abrupt break, the punctuation mark had become the telltale sign of artificial intelligence generated content, forcing writers to curtail its used to avoid challenges to their authenticity. Instructions to ChatGPT to not use em dashes was often ignored by the chatbot.
