India’s Department of Telecommunications has introduced a new cybersecurity regulation that requires messaging platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, Arattai, Snapchat, Sharechat, Jiochat, and Josh to implement what is called SIM binding.

In simple terms, SIM binding means that your messaging account can only be accessed on a device that physically contains the exact same SIM card used during registration. If the SIM is removed, inactive, or replaced with another SIM, the app will automatically block access and log the user out.
