Narayana Murthy criticises ‘silly old programs’ being touted as AI in India

Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy has called out Indian tech companies for mislabeling ordinary software as artificial intelligence (AI), saying the term has become a “fashion” in the country.

Speaking at TiE Con Mumbai 2025, Murthy criticised the trend of companies branding conventional programs as AI. “I think somehow it has become a fashion in India to talk of AI for everything. I have seen several normal, ordinary programs touted as AI,” he said.
