Australia regulator to probe social media influencers for false endorsements

Australia’s competition regulator said on Friday that it would investigate whether social media influencers had omitted to disclose their relationship with the brands they were endorsing.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) announced that it would examine more than 100 influencers after receiving complaints from a number of consumers about certain endorsements and testimonials they claimed to be false. As part of the sweep, the ACCC has started looking into Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube, and Twitch, all of which are owned by Meta Platforms Inc. said Cass-Gottlieb.
