Exempt data fiduciaries from data law’s provisions for training AI models: IAMAI to govt

The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), a not-for-profit industry body with more than 600 members—Indian and multinational corporations, and startups—has asked the Central Government, as an interim measure, to exempt data fiduciaries from the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act’s provisions, which are processing data for the training or fine-tuning of AI models. ET has seen a copy of the submission. The exemption should be however limited to publicly available personal data.
