India surpasses China as top exporter of smartphones to US; Apple drives shift

For the first time, India has become the leading manufacturing hub for smartphones shipped to the US, marking a major shift in global supply chains, as tech vendors react to growing geopolitical uncertainty, according to a new report from Canalys.

The transition is largely led by Apple, which has been accelerating its ‘China Plus One’ strategy. The tech giant has significantly scaled up iPhone production in India over the past few years and, in 2025, dedicated much of its India-based manufacturing to serve the US market.
