Netflix and Prime Video’s Indian appeals body, rejected every complaint received

The government issued IT rules, 2021, last year, allowing users to complain about content on OTT streaming platforms in India. The regulation required streaming services to join a “Level II” body chaired by a retired judge to facilitate appeals of their decisions. One of the bodies, which includes Amazon Prime Video and Netflix, rejected every single complaint it received, according to an Entrackr review of the body’s revelations.

The Internet and Mobile Association of India, an industry body representing OTT services, social media companies, fintech companies, and other digital companies, established the Digital Publisher Content Grievances Council. Arjan Kumar Sikri, a retired Supreme Court Justice, chairs the council’s complaints redress council. Representatives from studios, civil society, and Amazon and Netflix are among its members. Karan Bedi, the CEO of MX Player, serves as its president.
