Parliamentary committee summoned Twitter for hearing on data security and citizen privacy

The Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology of the Parliament of India has summoned Twitter India officials for a hearing on Friday (August 26), a day after a former Twitter executive claimed that the social media giant hired an Indian government agent.

The Lok Sabha Secretariat stated in a notice that the panel would “hear the views of representatives of Twitter India on the subject of Citizens’ Data Security and Privacy.” According to a Washington Post report on Tuesday, Peiter Zatko, Twitter’s former head of security, claimed that the Indian government forced the social media company to put one of its agents on its payroll, with access to user data, during a period of intense protests in the country.
