Telegram reduces subscription fees by more than half in India

Telegram has cut the monthly subscription fee for its premium tier in India by more than half, just months after launching the service, as it seeks to aggressively capitalise on a large user base in one of its most important markets.

Telegram said in a message to users in India on Saturday that it was making the subscription available at a discount in the country. Customers now pay 179 Indian rupees ($2.2) per month, down from 469 Indian rupees ($5.74) previously. In every other market, the app’s monthly subscription, known as Telegram Premium, costs between $4.99 and $6. Users who did not receive the message can see the new price in the app’s settings section, which TechCrunch independently verified.
