TRAI is set to launch DCA platform to help customers reduce spam calls and messages

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is set to launch a digital consent authorisation (DCA) platform in the next two to three months.

The launch of the DCA platform will speed up the process of obtaining consumer consent on the distributed ledger technology (DLT) platform, which has been mandated by the telecom regulator to stop bothersome telephonic calls and messages. According to an official, the DCA platform, which is currently in testing mode, will allow customers to whitelist their phone numbers on the platform once it is launched. Notably, according to a 2018 TRAI directive, telecom operators use DLT systems to reduce unwanted commercial communication (spam calls and messages) for customers.
