X accuses Indian govt of censorship over account blocks, Centre denies Reuters takedown order

In a tense faceoff, Elon Musk-backed social media platform X is taking the Indian government head-on on what it calls “press censorship in India” citing content takedown orders from the Centre.

In a post on X, by X’s own Global Government Affairs Handle, the platform claimed that on July 3rd, the Indian government directed to block 2,355 accounts, including Reuters and Reuters World. AS per X, the orders were passed under Section 69A of the IT Act.
